by MarDeck on Mar.31, 2010, under Cedar Creek Lake Life & Politics
I know this is a late posting, but with all the talk lately about the Tea Party becoming a real party I thought now might be a good tme to post the photographs that I never got around to posting last Fourth of July. This Tea Party to place in a retirement community in Henderson County and in Gun Barrel City. I spent many years covering politics and governments in large and small cities. The Cedar Creek larea area is about 60 miles S/E of Dallas and a lot of people here get involved in their communities and even attend council meetings. The photos below are of some local residents and their children. What I always liked about the City of Gun Barrel City is that their city motto was “We shoot straight with you.”
I am curious
- what do YOU think -
should the Tea Party become an officially recognized party like the Republican and Democratic?
Do you think it would survive or go the way of Ross Perot’s party?

Eustace School District gets Laptop Computers for ALL High School Students
by MarDeck on Aug.02, 2009, under Cedar Creek Lake Life & Politics
By Kerry Yancey
Monitor Staff WriterEUSTACE–After more than a year of discussion and planning, Eustace school trustees agreed to spend about $213,000 to provide every high school student with a book-sized laptop computer. At least a couple of the trustees were under the impression the board had already given a final go-ahead on the project, which involved installing wireless repeaters throughout the high school campus and the purchase of 600 laptops.
Board members held their last extended discussion on the laptop project back in January, but delayed action until the district’s tax collections and 2007-08 audit report were on hand. In January, technology supervisor Gene Myers and head technician Rusty Meyners said some delay might enable the district to obtain a lower price for newer models.
At that time, Myers and Meyners thought the district would be able to get around 450 laptops for about $250,000, so the board’s action July 21 will provide 150 more computers at a lower cost than originally projected.
The above story is from the Monitor. The paper is located in Mabank, TX
The Eustace School District is in a small rural area located about 60 miles SE of Dallas, TX. It is also one of the many cities on Cedar Creek Lake. It is fortunate the school district has been able to budget their money in such a way as to give all the seniors laptops. The school district has some forward thinking board members. If other school districts could give their students more of the programs available and leave their prejudices behind, one can only imagine the world of possibilities that a rural student might discover. Keep up the good work Eustace ISD.

Vintage & Antique Car Show Mabank, Texas
by MarDeck on Jul.07, 2009, under Adventures of Martha and Whitney, Cedar Creek Lake Life & Politics
Which should I pick?
Whitney and I went a little too late to an annual Crawfish Boil and Car Show in Mabank, TX. We arrived about 3:00 PM and just about everyone was gone. They had taken their cars and left and a big storm was about to blow in to boot. I was drooling at the idea of fresh crawfish, but will have to get it elsewhere. The important thing was that Whitney and I had come together. So we looked at the few cars together.
Wondering if this would make a good first car in 7 years.
Crazy thing about this car is the owner was in such a hurry that he jumped in and drove off while she was looking at the Ford Mach 1 Mustang instead of showing it off. Oh well, some have it and some don’t.
Wouldn't this be fun to drive?
I kinda like this Chevrolet. It reminds me of my childhood. My parents had a Chevy like this only it was a year older. Besides, I’ve always liked red cars.
Or would this be a fun first car??
My pick is the Studebaker in the following pictures. My husband, Ken, bought a Studebaker as his first car when he was 13. He is so old that you could drive at 13 in Texas! The woman who owns the Studebaker is Betty Smith and she is very proud of her baby.
Plenty of pix for the hubby, except he had the Studebaker truck!
Betty should be proud.
How does this look?
The End!
This was it. The only cars left at the show!
Fire District in Tool has Ground Breaking for new Fire Station
by MarDeck on May.19, 2009, under Cedar Creek Lake Life & Politics

Posing for The Monitor Newspaper
Henderson County Emergency Service District 4
The all volunteer fire department had a ground breaking 5/19/09 for their new fire station. It’s located at the corner of SH 274 and Church Rd in Tool, TX. Plenty of people from the community and county showed up for the formal affair.

and the ground is broken........
ESD vice president Tamra Brickey said the fire station should be complete by August 1, 09 and possibly even sooner. Plans for the fire station includes four bays so eight trucks can be parked, a meeting room, two offices, a kitchen, showers, uniform room and an upstairs that will be unfinished. The second floor will eventually be completed sometime in the future to house the paid fire fighters. Currently, the fire department is comprised of dedicated volunteers. Plans are also in the works for a helipad so that emergency helicopters will have a safe place to land and take on seriously injured or sick patients. Dallas and Tyler hospitals are an hour away.

Speaks to the participants
ESD President Gary Hash (on the left in the white shirt) spoke for several minutes to the fire fighters, community, county commissioner, ESD commissioners, residents of the district, women’s auxilliary and Henderson County judge about how far the fire district has come since its inception several years ago.

and we are proud.......
